Abstract

This study underscores the importance of understanding how different single-parent parenting styles can shape children's moral and social behavior, and highlights the need for tailored support interventions for single-parent families to promote better developmental outcomes. Children's moral development is strongly influenced by their environment, including the parenting styles adopted by their parents. This qualitative study explored the moral behavior of young children in their daily lives, focusing on the impact of single-parent parenting styles. Data were collected from ten participants raised by single parents. The findings indicate that two distinct parenting styles, authoritarian and permissive, have a significant influence on children's behavior in society. Authoritarian parenting is characterized by strict rules and high expectations with little warmth or feedback. Children raised in this type of environment often exhibit lower social competence and higher levels of antisocial behavior. Permissive parenting, on the other hand, is characterized by high levels of warmth and low levels of discipline and control.
